Bayern Munich’s picture exposes an offside goal that should have stood.

New graphics from Wednesday’s controversial Champions League match between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich reveal the game should not have been stopped for offside.

The Bundesliga giants won a thrilling semi-final at the Bernabeu after Alfonso Davies’ thunderous effort put them ahead, just a game away in a chaotic final.

Manager Thomas Tuchel switched to five backs and made a number of defensive saves against Harry Kane, prompting Real to press well before the brilliant Manuel Neuer slotted home Joselu’s goal.

Three minutes later, the former Stoke City striker tapped home a second to seal victory for Real after a lengthy VAR review.

Bayern’s players looked rattled, but they had more than 10 minutes to equalize, and even without their front four forwards on the pitch, they managed to capitalize on a good chance late on.

An optimistic long ball floated into the box and was flicked on by Ferland Mendy, but Noussair Mazraoui, who had just crossed for Matthijs de Ligt, headed into the middle and into the bottom corner.

Before the ball could reach him, the goalkeeper raised the flag for offside and referee Szymon Markiniak whistled, Real players were about to give up after hearing and before De Ligt could clear the ball.

However, the officials ordered to continue the game to call serious offside, and it was clear that Bayern had whistled so early that they would be even more upset when they saw the opportunity not offside.

Video from BeIN SPORTS confirmed that De Ligt was offside when the ball was first played, but Mazraoui was not, who competed with Mendy for the ball.

Because De Ligt is not in trouble for the first ball, he is not active, so this move should be allowed to play out.

Bayern players are still huffing and puffing in the mixed zone as De Ligt spoke to the press: “The linesman said to me, ‘I’m sorry, I made a mistake,'” said De Ligt.

“Normally, if it’s not clearly offside … you have to keep playing.

“I think it’s a big mistake if you go in at the last minute and mess things up like that. If it’s offside or not, I don’t know, VAR can check, but if you don’t check, how can you see? It’s embarrassing.”

Tuchel was angry with TNT Sports: “It was a terrible decision by the referee. In the end, it felt like a betrayal.

“I’m sorry lineman, but it doesn’t help. To raise the flag in a moment like this… Emin saw us win the second ball and shoot. It’s hard to swallow, but it’s true.”

Real Madrid will now host Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final early next month, with Bayern ending the season without a trophy for the first time in a decade.
