Breaking! Injury Blow for CSK as Conway Ruled Out of IPL! New signing Richard Gleeson joins the mix!

Due to an injury, Devon Conway, a wicketkeeper-batter for the Chennai Super Kings and New Zealand, will miss the entirety of IPL 2024. Richard Gleeson, an England fast bowler, has joined CSK’s team to take his spot.

During the second Twenty20 International against Australia in Auckland in February, Conway broke his thumb joint. Conway had surgery after that, and while CSK had hoped to have him back for the second half of the IPL in May, he is now out for the whole season.

Conway, who scored 672 runs in 15 innings at an average of 51.69 and a strike rate of just under 140, was crucial to CSK’s victory in the 2023 Indian Premier League. Conway scored 47 runs in a rain-soaked three-day Twenty20 match against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad, where he was also named Player of the Match.

Gravelly Avanish, the India Under-19 wicketkeeper, is MS Dhoni’s lone backup at CSK because of Conway’s injury-induced absence.

Gleeson’s arrival might perhaps assist CSK in occupying the space left by Mustafizur Rahman’s departure. The BCB has given the Bangladeshi left-arm seamer, who presently holds the record for most wickets taken by CSK (10 strikes), the green light to participate in the IPL till May 1.

Gleeson, 36, is a late bloomer who debuted professionally at Northamptonshire at the age of 27. In the T20 Blast of 2016, he then became Northamptonshire’s second-highest wicket-taker with 14 strikes in 10 games at an economy rate of less than six.

At the age of 34, Gleeson made his debut for England on the international scene in 2022 at Edgbaston when he removed Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Rishabh Pant in the first eight deliveries of a Twenty20 match. This summer, he is going to move into the earth.

Although Gleeson has never participated in the IPL, he has played for the Manchester Originals in the Hundred, the Rangpur Riders in the BPL, the Melbourne Renegades in the BBL, the Durban Super Giants in the SA20, and the Gulf Giants in the ILT20.

Gleeson has played 90 T20 matches overall and has amassed 101 wickets at an economy rate of 8.18.

After reappearing on his Durham debut, Scott Boland’s heel ailment may endanger his maiden stint in county cricket.

Although Boland did not bowl beyond the first day of the match, he bowled 13 wicketless overs for Durham in the first innings of their thrilling tie with Warwickshire at Edgbaston.

Their captain, Scott Borthwick, first stated that Boland’s absence was for precautions, but it has now been discovered that the fast bowler suffered from plantar fasciitis, a common heel ailment.

Due to his plantar fasciitis, Boland arrived in England later than expected and missed Durham’s opening match. Boland is not expected to play in Durham’s third-round match against Worcestershire, which gets underway at Kidderminster on Friday.

The team is waiting for further information on his level of fitness and has already started looking at potential replacements in case he is sidelined for an extended amount of time.

Boland’s contract with Durham extends beyond the end of July, and it includes action in both the T20 Blast and the County Championship. Despite not having played a Test since the Ashes last year, he is centrally contracted to Cricket Australia, and they will keep an eye on his workload while he is in England.

It is believed that in order to ensure Boland plays as much cricket as possible, Durham and the medical team of CA will keep collaborating on his recuperation following this most recent incident.

In anticipation of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc receiving rests at some point during Australia’s series against Pakistan, the West Indies, and New Zealand, he was rested before the beginning of the Sheffield Shield season. However, those three ended up participating in all seven games, therefore Boland had a very calm summer consisting of six Shield games, four Marsh Cup appearances, and three BBL games.

Recently promoted Queensland fast Xavier Bartlett withdrew from a Championship stay with Kent shortly before the season began, but it’s claimed they were content for him to play in the Blast as CA continues to manage their centrally contracted bowlers.

Concern has also been expressed over Nathan Lyon’s contract being shortened with Lancashire. Lyon signed a contract to play a full season in all three formats, but that was later halved and then reduced to seven red-ball matches only after he and Australia’s selectors discussed Lyon’s workload for the ensuing 18 months.

During their tie at Edgbaston, Ben Stokes spent two days with the Durham team, increasing his bowling loads as he continues his journey back to full health after knee surgery in November. He posted on Instagram, “Nice couple of days at Edgbaston last week.” “Weather has been that bad had to make the trip up so I could bowl outdoors.”
