Cole Palmer celebrated a stunning first season with Chelsea by picking up two awards on Tuesday night.
The forward has enjoyed a remarkable opening year at Stamford Bridge despite a turbulent time for the club as a whole, scoring 26 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions.
Only former Manchester City teammate Erling Haaland leads the 22-year-old in the chase for the Premier League’s Golden Boot, with such form in front of goal.
Palmer was recognized for his sterling efforts on Monday night by winning Chelsea’s Men’s Player of the Season award, while also picking up the Men’s Players’ Player of the Year gong.
Much has been made of Chelsea’s recruitment strategy under joint ownership by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, with pundit Gary Neville labeling the Blues “billion-pound bottle jobs” after February’s Carabao Cup final defeat to Liverpool.
However, Palmer has been an incredible success and the England international was keen to show the impact of other new arrivals in his first season with the club.
Malo Gusto has also established himself in Mauricio Pochettino’s first team amid the continued absence of club captain Reece James at right-back.
Indeed, Palmer revealed that it was in fact Gusto who won his vote for Player’s Player of the Year.
“My vote for the player was Malo Gusto, I love playing with him on the right,” Palmer said.
“He’s been fantastic this season when he’s played as well.”
