Joselu, a Real Madrid star, has said that he still loves Stoke City.

He may be Real Madrid’s Champions League hero now, but Joselu will always have a part of his heart.

The striker came off the bench to score twice against Bayern Munich on Wednesday (May 8) to send Los Blancos to the final to the delight of former Stoke player Maxime Choupo-Moting, who now plays for Bayern.

It has to be the biggest moment of Joselu’s career so far – but despite moving on to bigger things, he still looks back with great fondness on his time with Stoke.

Speaking to The Guardian recently, looking back on the 2015/16 season at the Pottery, he said: “A good year: we finished ninth, beat City and United, and reached the semi-finals of the [League] Cup, only to lose on penalties at Anfield … Good players I played with Crouch, [Marko] Arnautovic, Jonny Walters.

The striker continued: “I loved Jonny Walters. He fought, he was dedicated, physically he was a beast, and he scored over a hundred goals. Crouch was an incredible guy. Jude [Bellingham] calls me Crouchy now because I’m a tall striker who likes to cross, the others went to Jude and it’s stuck but I’m only 1.92 Crouch was very funny and helped me a lot.

“It’s hard to leave because I know everyone there, but they are looking for a change in style. I still follow Stock. They can’t go back to the Premier League. The players are gone, but I have a lot of friends there. There were people at the wedding from Stoke and from Newcastle ”

Joselu’s introduction turned around on Wednesday night, with Madrid trailing 1-0 and 3-2 on aggregate. Antonio Rudiger headed home Manuel Neuer’s free-kick before tapping home off the crossbar.

Joselu made 27 appearances in all competitions for Stoke during the 2015/16 season, scoring seven goals. He then moved to Newcastle before joining Real Madrid on loan from Espanyol at the start of the 2023/24 season.
