Justice Dept. & JK Rowling on the SAME PAGE? 🤯 Gender-critical views ‘essential for women’s rights,’ new document claims!
Labour’s shadow justice secretary has said she agrees with JK Rowling that “biological sex is real and it is unchangeable”.
Shabana Mahmood, the shadow justice secretary, expressed support for women who express gender-critical views, saying they should not be “stigmatized” for speaking out.
Ms. Mahmood, who took up the role last September, used her first major speech to warn of the dangers of “mob rule” when “the rule of law fails”.
Citing the MeToo movement, the shadow frontbencher said it was a “powerful moment of liberation” but also called it a “damning indictment” of the legal system when “the only justice on offer was hashtag justice, and not judges or juries.”

Hashtag movements
Asked if she had wider concerns about freedom of expression on social media, particularly when it came to gender debates, Ms Mahmood said: “The hashtag movement is sometimes used to stop debate and often many women have had to go to court, usually in employment tribunals. , to clarify their rights to freedom of expression.
“For example, since you refer to JK Rowling, clarify her right to believe that biological sex is real and unchangeable – which I agree with.”But they can’t lose their jobs because of their opinions, which are completely valid and they have the right to express them.”
This comes after Wes Streeting admitted earlier this month that it had mistakenly referred to “trans women as women” following a Cass review into NHS gender care. Last night, Ms Mahmoud added: “I think it’s hard for people to think about the normal rules in this age of social media.
“What is allowed under the law should not be insulted or allowed to be said, and you certainly should not feel that you can lose your job because of legal considerations.”MP for Birmingham Ladywood said “Some of these issues are now being addressed” but said she believed “it took us too long to get to this point”.
“Toxic Debate”
“I think campaigners like JK Rowling and others have had to lead the fight in this area, which I know has become a bit of a toxic debate, but basically we should fall back on the laws of our country. “They are there to protect everyone.
Giving her views on the rule of law at Gray’s Inn in central London, Ms Mahmood said the law “must change with the world and when it fails, it fails us.“For many women, the rise of the MeToo movement was a powerful moment of liberation. But it was also a damning indictment of our system that the only justice on offer was justice by hashtag, and not by judge or jury.”
She told members of the legal profession: “And while monsters like Harvey Weinstein would eventually, rightly, go to trial and be found guilty of horrific crimes, others who have never been found guilty of any crime have been accused and publicly shamed without the right to a defense.” or a fair hearing.
“The oldest maxim of all—that all are innocent until proven guilty—has occasionally been set aside as the court of public opinion has replaced the court.”
