Mitchell Starc stood up at a critical point for KKR: McClenghan after MI won.

Mitchell McClengahan feels Mitchell Starc stood up in a big moment for KKR after their win over MI on May 3 on Friday. Starc was bought for a record fee by Kolkata Knight Riders during the IPL 2024 auction but has yet to live up to the billing. Starc had 7 wickets from 8 matches before the MI game.

The Aussie pacer produced a sensational performance with the ball at the Wankhede on Friday as KKR won the match by 24 runs. Starc took the wicket of Ishan Kishan in his first over before claiming a three-wicket win at the end to seal the win. Speaking to Cricinfo, McClenaghan said that Starc has repaid the faith that KKR put in him in the last few matches.

The former MI pacer said Starc looked a little exhausted after his first over but bounced back at the right time to run out and take away any MI chance of victory.

“We’ve talked a lot about Mitchell Starc during this campaign for Kolkata. They’d stick with him. I think in the last couple of outings he’s kind of rewarded them for sticking with him. I think a bit deflated even after the first one today, but in the big moments the big players are coming in.”

“First get the wicket of Ishan Kishan and finish it off with the last three wickets just to clean up the tail and take away any chance Mumbai had. It was high quality. He suited Tim David well too. Really good job. That would have pleased him and he got excited about it,” McClenaghan said.
