Though humbled by the prospect of assuming this distinguished role, Prince Edward admitted feeling somewhat apprehensive yet committed to maintaining the exceptional legacy and unblemished reputation left by his illustrious predecessor. He vowed to dedicate his utmost effort towards preserving the proud traditions and accomplishments of the regiment.

The British Army’s Household Division encompasses an esteemed quintet of Foot Guard Regiments, among them the revered Scots Guards. During their annual gathering in September of the previous year, these esteemed soldiers paid tribute to the Duke’s remarkable half-century service as their Colonel with thunderous applause and a heartfelt display of appreciation.

The occasion was further graced by the creation of a unique piper tune titled “The Colonel,” dedicated to honoring the Duke’s steadfast devotion to the regiment and his tireless commitment to our nation.

According to Lieutenant Colonel James Leask, the Duke of Kent has stood as a resilient pillar amidst the ever-evolving landscape, offering unwavering loyalty to the Scots Guards and setting an inspiring example of selflessness and dedication to our collective homeland.

Reflecting on the significance of the upcoming transition, Lieutenant Colonel James Leask acknowledged, “This moment signifies the culmination of a truly extraordinary period and the dawn of a fresh and invigorating phase.

As we bid farewell to the Duke’s long-lasting tenure as our esteemed Colonel, we warmly welcome the arrival of His Royal Highness Prince Edward, eager to carry on the rich heritage and tradition of the Scots Guards.”
