Days before he was assaulted in 2022, Sir Salman Rushdie claimed to have dreamed that a guy was attempting to knife him.

Although Rushdie survived numerous threats throughout the ensuing years, the lingering fear of potential danger remained ever-present in his mind. And now, as he prepared to deliver a lecture, the ghosts of the past seemed poised to make a terrifying comeback.

“But somehow, I managed to survive; it was merely a fleeting brush with mortality lasting no more than thirty seconds.” The courageous author’s resilience and determination continue to inspire as he carries on advocating for the importance of open dialogue despite facing ongoing challenges.

Amidst the chaos and turmoil of the brutal assault, Salman Rushdie found solace in the unexpected mercy bestowed upon him by his assailant. As he lay recovering from his injuries, one of the saving grace surgeons offered a unique perspective on the situation. “Your luck ran out twice that day,” the surgeon explained to Rushdie.

“First, you were extremely unlucky to become the target of such a vicious act. However, fortune favored you once more when your attacker turned out to be an inept killer.”
